We placed in 5th position overall in a super tight contest… we are so proud of everyone particularly the first timers who have travelled and competed at National level for the first time! A huge effort!

We also are hugely proud of those members who have also been playing in multiple bands and grades across the competition, you set a wonderful example to our up and comers! (Percussionists, you are exceptional!!)

Lastly, a huge thank you to our wonderful friends at Toronto Brass for their support and expertise this weekend! We couldn’t have done it without you!

OUR NEW MUSICAL DIRECTORS!

GCBB Musical Director

We are thrilled to announce the appointments of our news MUSICAL DIRECTORS!

MATT KELLY is taking up the baton in April after our upcoming Nationals performance.

Matt has been a familiar face in music education on the Central Coast for the past 15 years, as a classroom music teacher and a band ensemble coordinator. He’s hugely passionate about banding and loves creating spaces where musicians of all ages and abilities can build confidence, develop their skills, and—most importantly—enjoy making music together.

As a performer, Matt has competed in both concert and brass band settings. While cornet is his main instrument, he’s also happy jumping onto tenor horn, trombone, or even percussion when needed. Alongside performing, he has a strong background in composition and arranging, which feeds into his love of choosing repertoire that is engaging, musical, and rewarding to play.

Matt was a member of Central Coast Brass when the band won the National Brass Band Championship in 2017, and has been part of the mighty Sydney City Brass since their very first National title in 2019. He is currently preparing to head overseas with SCB to compete at the British Open—an exciting chance to experience banding at the very highest level.

Matt is really looking forward to bringing his experience, energy, and collaborative approach to his new role, and to working with the band to keep building a strong, supportive, and rewarding musical culture.

GCBB Academy Band Musical Director

We’re excited to announce the appointment of Arthur Webster as our new Academy Band Musical Director!

Arthur comes from a very musical family with a long history in our band. He has been part of our organisation since he was a junior and is still a valued member of our Community Band, as well as a dedicated committee member.

He is an experienced and versatile musician with a strong banding and orchestral background. Arthur regularly performs with top A Grade bands including Willoughby and Brass Band Newcastle, and is also part of our own Central Coast Brass, winners of the 2017 Australian Nationals. We’re also incredibly proud that Arthur has been selected for the world-class Australia Brass, who will be travelling to the UK this year to compete against the world’s best!

Arthur currently teaches and conducts ensembles with Teaching Services Australia, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to our Academy Band.

We’re growing and looking for new players!

If you know any junior musicians, adult beginners, or players returning after a break, we’d love to hear from you. Academy Band rehearsals:Thursdays, 6–7pm at our band hall.

Our Story

Gosford Shire Band 1966 Australian B grade Champions.jpg

In 1897, a notice appeared in the 'Gosford Times' seeking players to form a local brass band.

The rest is history.

Over the intervening 125+ years, Gosford City Brass Band has served the community by playing at civic events such as Anzac Day and Australia Day and performing high quality concerts at venues across the Central Coast.

Over the years we have competed in a variety of competitions at local, state and national levels, with notable successes in all grades.

The band has always focused on building the musical expertise of players as well as entertaining its audience. We are especially keen on supporting and encouraging young players.

Here at Gosford City Brass Band we are always striving to expand our wonderful band community and strengthen our historic organisation.

We welcome new members of any age or ability; whether you are a complete beginner or more experienced musician - we have a spot for you!

Our wonderful ACADEMY BAND is our starting point for junior players and beginners.

The Academy Band meet every Thursday during term times between 6-7pm, and we find it can be an excellent way to complement school students musical education alongside any other school band commitments. We offer small group tutorials and there is also the option to arrange private tuition with our experienced tutors.

Why join a Community Band?

A community band like ours can have huge benefits for school age children musical education as it provides continuity. Many primary schools offer band programmes but often when a child moves on to secondary school that may not be the case. Sadly, many children give up playing as a result- however, as an independent community group, we can provide a lifelong musical education and experience.

Once players are more experienced, there is the option to progress from the Academy Band to the Gosford City Brass Band, our main community performance band. We meet every Monday during term time between 7.30- 9.30. We have a good range of ages and abilities and currently play at C Grade level. We have a sensible schedule of community events and concert performances throughout the year, plus the challenge of playing at State and regional competitions.

We have a wide range of instruments available. Players wishing to use band-owned instruments are required to pay a one-off non-refundable fee. Or feel free to bring your own if you have one!
